White shirt tradition

Pilots have this tradition after they fly solo the first time.   They cut the back off the white T-shirt they were wearing and then sign the front with their instructor and the date.  This tradition dates back to the days when the old little planes only could fit one pilot in front and the other one behind him.  When a student was in the front and they obviously had no headsets, the instructor would tug on the back of his shirt to signal to him and let him know what to do/what not to do.  Cutting the back off the shirt symbolizes that he doesn't need the instructor anymore and that the instructor is confident in his abilities.  Kinda fun!

We were so glad Dad Henrie was there to share the fun day with us!

Filling out the log book

ok, well, Ryan is going up flying early tomorrow morning, so I better get to bed and hopefully get some 2010 airborne pictures to add in here!   For all those friends and family who are brave and itching to go flying with a student pilot, Ryan is in his time building phase of flight training and would love to take you up with us :).
